Because of the longer amount of time it takes for the oil paints to dry, the artist is given a great opportunity for blending and layering colors. Oils can also provide the artist with a more wide-spread range of colors and tones. Steve Karro uses smooth brushstrokes to blend several different colors in his painting. The painting uses soft tones, portraying a calm setting.

The environment surrounding her is a mix of pink hues and dark blue ones, the contrast from the outer background to the middle background also gives the painting emotions such as happy and tranquil due to these bright colors. Also featured in the sky of the painting are softly painted doves which is often represented as a symbol for peace.

The painting shows how the girl is at peace with both herself and nature. It reminds you of the good things in life and makes you realize that peace can be reached even if it is only on an individual level. The painting also gives a feel of freedom by the way the doves are flying freely and there are little wild flowers growing all around her. Even if this is just a painting it relates to real life because it shows how anyone can reach serenity by the simple act of deep sleep.
