Title of painting: Water Lilies
Name of artist: Claude Monet
Year produced: 1919
Country of origin: France
Context: Our painting is by Claude Monet and the painting’s name is water lilies. We are doing this chalk festival so we could learn more about peace. Also so we could have a better understanding of peace and what it means or looks like to us. We are focusing in the painting where we can make people feel calm and peaceful.
Artist: Claude Monet was born on November 14,1840 and died December 5,1926 at age 86. He was born at Paris, France and died at Giverny, France. His full name was Oscar Claude Monet. Monet enrolled in the Academie Suisse. After an art exhibition in 1874, a critic insultingly dubbed Monet’s painting style “Impression,” since it was more concerned with form and light than realism, and the term stuck.
Analysis: This painting is based on water lilies on the pond in Claude Monet’s garden. This work of art is the second most important thing in the Royal French Academy. Monet’s painting was done with oil on canvas because he use a bit of paint for his painting of water lilies. Sometimes people look at the painting and see patches of color and forget that what they’re looking at is water lilies. The technique Monet uses for the water is very thick strokes and for the lilies he does circular swirls or dabs of color.
Theme: Our chalk festival represents peace to our community. We are portraying peace by drawing painting/artwork with chalk on what we think is peaceful. The definition of peaceful is free from disturbance. We can present peace by many different types of ways. Peace can be shown in drawings, stories and even actions.
